Confirmation at CLUMC

Our confirmation program offers an opportunity for students in 6th through 8th grade to explore the foundations of our faith in Scripture, Tradition, Experience and Reason—the United Methodist Quadrilateral. Our pastors and adult leaders help us grow, especially in our Sunday morning classes, retreats and service projects.

What can my child expect to experience in confirmation this year?

Class content:  All 6th-8th graders will meet in the Christian Life Center Middle High room upstairs on Sundays. Adults will be there starting at 9:15am so feel free to come hang out before class. At 9:35am please grab snack and get read for our "One the Road" devotion. On most mornings.

  • Confirmation studends will explore their United Methodist Heritage and gain an understanding of what it means to be a United Methodist. They will also focus on early church history and the sacraments.

Service Hours:  John Wesley urged all Christians to do all the good we can, everywhere we can, when we can! We expect confirmation students to participate in 10 hours of service each year. Check with Pastor for more information on how those hours can be earned.

We expect confirmation youth attend at least two worship services a month. CLUMC offers four worship services each week: Wednesday Youth Worship @ 6pm, Sat. Worship at 5:30pm, and Sunday services at 8:30am and 10:45am

What curriculum will we be using? We use lessons from several different Christian Education resources, but much of the United Methodist-specific content comes from a curriculum called Re:form.

When will my child be confirmed?  Because we take your childs commitment to the Christian faith seriously and want to them to learn as much as possible, our confirmation program is now 3 years (grades 6th-8th). Your child will be confirmed at the end of their 8th grade year.

Who will be teaching my child?

  • 6th/7th/8th grade leaders: Pastors, Linda Converse, Alys Ratigan, Joe Ratigan, Karla Voller

Parent Involvement: We ask that each parent volunteer to bring snacks and stay for class at least one Sunday per year.
